Brian is in Tanzania, and he can’t wait for Molly to be in Tanzania too.

Brian came to Tanzania to do his dissertation fieldwork. He studies Maasai livelihoods, including their decision making processes pertaining to the grave issue of water scarcity and their resilience to changes in drought resource access. Brian’s first trip to Tanzania was in 2004 when he came to study abroad as an undergrad. Something beckoned him back though, for this is his fourth trip to this exotic land. Brian arrived in March of this year and hopes to get as much done as possible before he and Molly leave in November.
This is not only Molly’s first visit to Africa, but to any developing nation. She had ventured to France and New Zealand in years past, but decided it was time to explore a new continent. Perhaps the most important factor in her decision to pack up and move to Tanzania is its abundance and variety of bananas. Molly stays busy studying Kiswahili, writing, cooking, undertaking artsy endeavors, and volunteering some time and energy to a local organization focused on responsible tourism.
They are sharing a life in a foreign country, learning the language, acquainting themselves with local customs, and experiencing all that Tanzania has to offer—the beauty, the wild, the enchantment, the suffering, the poverty, and everything in between, but the important thing is they’re doing it together. (Are you puking yet?)
